AMD RedTeam+ Radeon Rig Build: The Motherboard

Since I had a speedy, power-hungry, processor, I knew I needed a beefy motherboard. There aren't too many motherboards out there that support a 220w processor. Its Advanced 8+2 phase CPU VRM works with high TDP processors such as my FX-9590

I originally wanted a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7, but no one had any in stock. So I went with the next best thing, the UD5. Either way, this features Gigabyte's Ultra Durable technology with extra copper to help keep the motherboard cool during high performance. Every little bit of cooling helps, especially with a hot processor and powerful GPU.

There are a ton of USB ports. Some are 3.0. All ports put out 3x power to help recharge your devices, even while the system is turned off.

There are also six 6GB/s high speed SATA ports. My last motherboard only had 2. I need at least 3 for my SSD and two working HDDs.

Currently, memory of up to 2000mhz is supported. That's why I only went with Performace Series Radeon RAM running at 1866mhz rather than Gamer Series Radeon RAM which runs at 2133mhz. Besides, my GPU will be doing all of the heavy lifting.

I did have to update the BIOS. It only read my processor as 4.0ghz, rather than the native 4.7Ghz it is supposed to be. Two BIOSes make for good playroom if I ever wanted to start changing settings.

This motherboard can also support Dolby Home Theater sound. I also love that there is an optical output for the sound from this motherboard. Hooking up my PC to a digital receiver helps out with getting awesome sound out of my computer. I could also manually plug in speakers into the different ports on the back as well.
