I'm using an +AMD FX-8350 Unlocked processor. This processor comes with a base speed of 4.0Ghz and turbo speed of 4.2Ghz. It is also very overclocker friendly.
The power of this processor should last me a while.
So far in this build:
AMD FX-8350 Unclocked Processor
I guess my usual step 1 is the motherboard but eh, i guess that's just preference.
I debated on which one to do first and went with the processor instead this time.
Great starting point Ben. I usually start with the CPU myself just because it'll determine what I do with the system IE gaming / workstation so on so forth. For me The CPU is also determined by the budget as well.
Very nice!
I would possibly start with the graphics card. That in turn decides motherboard, CPU and so on
Good choice. As I am also an Amd user I would suggest you use a 990fx motherboard. Definitely worth the money in my opinion.
I have the same processor and it's great for the price.
The motherboard will be posted tomorrow!
I think intel architectures are better but much more expensive
+Mathew Morrissette AMD blows, and all the Intel fan boys know.. 😀
I have that processor and its fantastic. Please do let me know what mobo you get
+Mathew Morrissette Intel does indeed cost more. With AMD, you get more bang for your buck. The savings can ten be out towards games. As a gamer, I want as much value as I can. A true gamer doesn't discriminate if they can play.
You are totally entitled to your opinion. I have used both Intel and AMD and this is my preference. Some people own iPhones, some own android phones. I own both.
I also do prefer Intel mainly because I used to be an ATI graphics card guy and ATI did not nessecarily work best with AMD, I assume that is something that has been solved now.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it has been fixed as well. 😉
One of my fave ATI products was the All-In-Wonder card that I used to use with my Pentium Systems in college. That save quite a bit of space in my dorm room in college.
I loved the All in wonder cards as well 🙂
that some powerful shit that u got there
Step 2: The Motherboard

I dunno, the 8350 is a rather poor choice compared to both the 8320 and 4460.
+Larry Bob I'm going for Radeon GPUs in this build, so I figured an AMD processor would be a better match. The 8350 over the 8320 was only because someone gave me the processor. It also doesn't hurt to have something a little faster, does it?
It's not, really. Haswell only furthered the gap between Piledriver and mainstream Intel processors further, and you're definitely paying an efficiency price.
The only way the 8350 can really pull ahead is if you use extremely well threaded applications, and those are extremely far and few between.
True that. I'm just future proofing in case the need comes along.
Also, I did get this CPU from a friend as a favor. The cost of the processor to me was a non-issue.

I have a similar build: FX8350, Sapphire 7870XT, 4x4GB Ripjaws Z on an Asrock 990FX. Does everything I need. #IfItCanGame
