Powerful hardware requires reliable powerful power. I originally wanted to go with a 1000w Fractal Design Newton R3 1000W PSU since I am a big fan of their products, but decided that I needed more power in case of any future upgrades that may require it.
So I decided to go with this EVGA Supernova 1300 G2 Power Supply Unit. EVGA usually makes stuff for the other guy, but I decided to use this on a Team Red rig. One thing that sold me on it was the RED cables. Red cables to power AMD GPUs is just fitting.
The biggest selling factor though was that it is fully modular. I only need to plug in the cables that I need to. This makes for greta cable management and therefore less heat in the case. Modular cables also make for good direct power to devices. The multi rail design allows for higher amperage power to one’s power hungry devices. My R9 2952 alone draws 500w of power requiring at least 28amps per 8pin cable. This PSU provides up to 108.3A on a single rail.
While not quite 80 Plus Platinum like my other PSUs, an 80 Plus GOLD rating is still great for 90% energy efficiency.
This PSU is pretty long, but because it is paired with the awesome Fractal Design Core 3300 case in my build, it doesn’t matter. The case still has lots of space for airflow.

So these power supplies are reliable? I had my eyes on a "budget" PSU, same brand, forgot the model, 400W (I think).
It depends on how much power you need. You need to research how much power each of your components consume. 400w is kind of on the low end.
