AMD Gaming PC Build Step 12: Ongoing Upgrades (GPU)

Benedict Corpuz July 7, 2014 6
I came home the other week and found a large box from AMD on my doorstep. I quickly went inside and opened it. It was like Christmas. AMD had sent me both a PowerColor TurboDuo R9 280 and PowerColor TurboDuo R9 290X.

A PC build is ever ongoing. Things are always changing and technology gets better.

I went ahead and played with both cards in this system and decided to upgraded my Tahiti based crossfire setup to the R9 290X Hawaii based GPU.

The PowerColor TurboDuo R9 290X features 4GB of GDDR5 RAM, an engine clock of 1000mhz, and 4K support. It also features Eyefinity, one of my favorite features.

I am also excited to use the AMD HD3D technology. More on that on a later post.

Gaming is even better with this feature filled GPU.

So far in my build:
-AMD FX-8350 Unclocked Processor
-Sapphire Pure Black 990FX Motherboard
-16GB DDR AMD Performance Series RAM
-Fractal Design Tesla R2 800W Power Supply
HIS 7970 IceQ X² 3GB DDR5 GPU
Sapphire HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 GPU
-Sandisk 128GB SSD
-Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM HDD
-Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM x2
-Fractal Design Define R4 Windowed Case
-Acer G7 Series 21.5" LED IPS Monitor x 3
-Sony Home Theater 5.1 Dream System
-L3vetron Mech5 Keyboard & Mouse
-X-Arcade Tankstick
-X-Box 360 Wireless Controller
-USB NES Gamepads
-CoolerMaster Seidon 120 XL
-PowerColor Turboduo Radeon R9 290X

Note: +AMD  sent this GPU to me as a gift.

Nice!! Are you going to get a second one to push all three monitors, methinks you'll need it. I have one trix R9 290 and overclocked it performs better than the stock powercolor 290x and at 5760 x 1080 on ultra bf4 2xmsaa i'm getting 45-60 fps depending on the map.

I want to get a second one. I'm getting 35fps on Ultra and 45fps on High at 5760×1080 with Battlefield 4 on the triple monitor setup.
