AMD A10-7850k APU Build Step 6: The Case

I'm using a Black Pearl Fractal Design Define R2. This case has lots of room for extra hard drives in its modular slide out bays. One can also mount SSDs behind the motherboard to save space.

There are lots of places to put fans. 7 to be exact. You can mix and match 120mm and 140mm fans. This comes with 2 Fractal Design Silent Series fans. These are some of the quietest fans I have used.

This case will definitely keep the components cool.

I used this case in my last APU build and prefer this over the newer R4. With the R4, you had to open the front panel to allow airflow from the front. The R2 has no such blockage.

So far in my build:
-AMD A10-7850K APU
-AMD RG2133 16GB Gamer Series RAM
-Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H Motherboard
-Sandisk 128GB SSD
-Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM HDD
-DVD-RW Drive
-Fractal Design Tesla R2 650-Watt 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V/EPS12V 650 Power Supply FD-PSU-TS2B-650W
-Fractal Design Define R2 Case

Why are you getting a $200 apu with $150 ram when you could get 8Gb of ram for $65 and a 6300 for $100 and get a real video card like a R9 270 or a GTX 760 if you catch one on sale?

Also what is the budget for this build?

+Gabe DeVries this unfinished build is being set up with the APU and RAM gifted to me by AMD on separate occasions as a Third system in my home. I had the case and power supply sitting around. My main rig is an FX-8350 with 16GB ram and both a 7970 and 7950 Crossfired.

Costs will be broken down in a later post. I really had no budget in mind. I just wanted to build.

You must be an AMD Test Drive guy! Otherwise I doubt you would have that case, PSU and DVD Drive all together 😛 And the RAM they sent out aswell, although I'm not certain if everyone got the RP 1866 or not 😛

+James Iovino I am. I do still have the #AMDTestDrive system up and running. I also had my main PC in a Fractal Design Define R4 case even before the test drive, so I was happy to see that kit come with a Fractal Design case. They are now my go-to for cases and fans.

Yea i built a design r4 machine for someone but wasn't too impressed by the case. Thing is they are really expensive. So while I love mine I wouldn't buy one for a computer I was building unless it was on sale…

True that. Pricey, but good quality. The R4 looks great, but the front cover restricts a lot of airflow. But I'm too lazy to pull my other system out of that and out it into another.

yea it does have great quality, ill vouch for that! And its easy to work inside.
I know how you feel about being lazy. I waited weeks until one day I just pulled apart like 3 different systems and changed all the parts around at once.

I probably need to do that when I get time.
